with the sound of music…
Fellas
a choir for male voices- with a difference.
Based in Kendal in South Lakeland, an area known for its beauty and rich musical culture, we aim to go to different places than most male voice choirs.
We are professionally taught to a standard where we perform publicly, but generally in a less reverent and formal way than some traditional men’s choirs.
We aim to sing harmonies as well as we can. We also provide friendship to our members and pleasure to our audience.
History and ethos
We started singing together as part of a prostate cancer charity initiative that aimed to take around twenty fellas who had never sung before up to a performance standard choir.
Our goal was to support the well-established K Shoes male voice choir at their Christmas concert in 2017.
Our new choir, known then as Men United, achieved this objective and a group of us became friends and wanted to carry on singing together.
Our Musical Director
Our Musical Director is Emily Robinson, a professional soprano soloist and Choir Leader who teaches, leads and encourages us and, in her own words, keeps us in check “through a mix of energy, musical expertise, banter, and sheer dogged determination.”
Where and what do we sing?
We meet each Wednesday evening at 6.00pm, at the Kendal United Reformed Church, 106 Highgate, Kendal.
We practise through to 8.15pm and afterwards, those that want to, enjoy a drink together.
We aim to learn two or three new songs each ‘ term’ and have built up a repertoire of around 25 songs that we are comfortable singing to performance standard.
